Goal: By the end of 2022, I will be able to effectively engage with students to further enhance their learning through a variety of different teaching approaches. Year 5 Goal: Motivating stage three students to develop their reading fluency and comprehension. I will do this by: - Changing my lesson structure to short structured lessons to maintain interest. (~10 minute sessions per student). - Implement a reward system to help motivate the students (I will need to speak to the teacher about the current existing reward system in the students classroom, otherwise, come up with my own system). - Provide students with choices in regards to what they would like to read. - Helping students draw connections from the text to their own lives (ensure the text is relevant to them) - Implement the read to someone strategy to develop their comprehension skills This will be done by having students read a section of the text and ask questions (can be done in pairs) - Utilising show me boards to improve vocabulary. Students can: Write a question about the text. Asking students to make a prediction. Using key words from the text to write sentences. Write a summary of the text in one sentence - Timing the students to see how quickly they can read (See Vita for the reading speed guide). Update: 08/09/2022 Implemented reward system with year 5 reading group. Stamp chart - 2 students will be selected for a stamp after each session. Earn 5 stamps and receive a prize. Year 3 Goal: Develop my skills when working with New Arrival students to develop their English language skills. I will do this by: - Utilising the Gradual Release of Responsibility model to help students strengthen their English Language skills. - Modelling of responses in English in through different modes Written Orally Visually - Ensuring students are repeating what I have modelled.
